I think I have the right background, training and interests to really add to
the bottom line of a B2B Internet Construction Support Company as follows:
Construction: A license in Civil Engineering and a Master's degree
in Construction from Stanford University. Fifteen years working in the
construction industry from hands-on work in the field to being the highest
positioned facilities engineer in Sprint Communications. Ten additional
years in the US Navy Civil Engineer Corp Reserve program where I retired as a
Commander.
Computers: Thirty Seven years of programming computers from main
frames to handheld. Former MIS Director with Federal Government.
Wrote four books on computer applications, developed and published computer
software, obtained a US Patent on computer software.
Up-to-date in the latest development in Java, PERL, HTML and XML.
Internet: Over six years experience in developing and maintaining a
Internet sites, including extensive server side programming and database
management.
Product Planning and Strategy: Back when I was with Sprint
Communications, I predicted the emergence of something very similar to the
Internet. Where it differed from today's Internet was that it used
regular phones lines and sent packets of information to various levels of
assembly point computers where it would be used by small to medium businesses
to order supplies, take inventory, assemble bids etc.
I have always had the ability to think beyond the problem at hand to the
bigger picture. I believe that in order to survive, a high tech company
must anticipate the next change in sea state and be ready for it. Today
I see XML exploding in the B2B Internet world and the companies in each market
today have the opportunity and responsibility to shape its development.
Having created an Commercial Internet site, I understand what's involved
and what is critical in establishing whatever is necessary to get and keep a
customer.
I can bring to a Company this vision backed by years of experience in
Construction, Computers and the Internet.
Corporate Project Management: I have held numerous Project
Manager and Engineer positions in my career. I have taught Project
Management and have a Master's Degree in it. I can
bring this background to managing the task at hand.
Client Project Management Consulting: I speak both
"Construction" and "Computer" and I am senior enough to
easily gain the trust of old timers in the construction industry. I know
what is possible on the computer side and what is necessary on the
construction side.
Product Management: I just finished development of an Internet based
educational product including contract documents and online
instructions. I can manage the development of an Internet product.
Product Development: I have hands-on experience developing
commercial computer programs and Internet sites.
Java, PERL, HTML, XML, and Database Programming: Over
the past six years I have developed three web sites on two different
systems. I have created one of the most extensive client side Java
applications in the world. I have supported that application on the
server side with the necessary PERL and Database development work. I
understand two and three tier database systems and have created numerous
server side programs to output HTML code. Long before XML, I was
creating programs that inserted "metadata" tags into HTML pages to
catch the attention of web crawlers.
I actually enjoy programming and have done if for others as a contract
programmer and consultant. With over 30 years of programming experience,
what I don't know in the way of a specific IDE, language area or application,
I can quickly learn.
Customer and Corporate Training: When I left Sprint
Communications to get back into Computers, I did a lot of computer training,
including writing four "How To" computer books and developing a
unique commercial training tutorial on spreadsheets. I have taught at
the Community College Level and for the Federal Government as well as private
companies and on Cruise Ships. I enjoy teaching.
Web Page Development: I wrote my first web page over six years
ago when there were no commercial web page development programs like Front
Page available. I have followed the W3 standards as they
developed. I have followed the evolution of web pages and believe that
the purpose of a web page is to communicate and "simpler is
better". Any Java Script of Java Applets should support
communications and not try to dazzle the viewer with the technical expertise
of the web page designer.
Customer Support: A long time ago, I invested in a telephone
head set and have logged in many hours with customers on phone support.
I have also spent a lot of time as the customer with companies such as
Microsoft and Symantec. I believe that the best customer support is the
support that isn't needed. An hour spend in creating a better product
can save ten hours in customer support.
